OMERIC (Operations
Management Education and Research Institute of Canada)
...
was formed
in 1986 as a non-profit entity to fund and develop course
materials to be used primarily by the Canadian (Region 8)
chapters of the American Production and Inventory Control
Society (APICS) as well as for sales to other APICS chapters,
residing outside of Canada.
OMERIC developed
and distributed high quality course materials for chapters.
Such courses were known as the Principles Courses and there
were 4 of them namely: Principles of Inventory Control,
Principles of Planning, Principles of Manufacturing Control
and Principles of Operations Management.
In the late
1990’s, OMERIC decided to sell APICS its superb materials as
the Society was pursuing the development of similar
educational offerings. This transaction was completed and the
ownership of the courses was transferred to APICS. They
renamed the Principles courses to ‘Fundamentals Courses’ and
are actively selling them across North America. French
translation of the Fundamentals Courses has recently been
completed and transferred to APICS as part of the original
agreement.
“Fundamentals of
Materials Handling and Warehousing”, the 5th
course, was later developed and remains the copyrighted
property of OMERIC. Subsequently one more product has been
developed, a 4 hour workshop “the Stock Control workshop”.
